A finish looks flawless on screen, lit by a designer's studio lamp. Built at full scale, under actual site light, the same color reads completely differently by four in the afternoon — and nobody would have known until two hundred square metres were already covered in it.

A rendering is lit by whoever made it. A mock-up is lit by whatever your project actually gets — morning glare, afternoon shade, the neighbor's wall throwing shadow across it by three o'clock.
Scale changes everything about a material that a swatch cannot show you. Texture reads differently at two metres than at ten centimetres. This step exists so that difference is discovered on a test wall, not on yours.
