A site team, mid-project, genuinely believes a small change is an improvement. It probably even is one. But it was never approved, never discussed with the owner, and never checked against the reasoning that led to the original decision — reasoning the site team was never part of.

The site is where decisions meet reality, and reality is persuasive. A shortcut looks reasonable in the moment. A substitution looks harmless. None of that is the same as being right — it's just being nearby, with a hammer, and no record to check against.
This commitment exists so good intentions on site never quietly override a decision that was made deliberately, upstream, for reasons the site team may not have.
